For Healing.. For Trusting Time.. For Kenny.. For Nahlah

The pain that comes with loss is difficult for anybody. Losing a friendship because of being betrayed, losing a boyfriend or girlfriend because things just weren’t meant to be, losing a loved one because it was their time to pass on, or losing a pet to illness or unexpected circumstances.

When I lost my Sunny Kenny this past October I was devastated and not able to handle the situation how I desperately wished I could. I never thought any of the pets I had while growing up would ever become sick or die unexpectedly. I thought they’d live well into old age similarly to the first cat I ever had, Remington.

Dear Johnny Boy by Samantha Moynan

Dear Johnny Boy,
You lick the tears away at the sign of a sniffle. Often times, to the point of an overwhelming, cannot really breathe correctly situation and so I ask you to stop. You stare at me out of the corner of your eye for a minute and settle by laying your head on my chest instead. That will do. I know you can feel my pain, happiness, frustration, anger, and excitement. You read my body language with an undeniable accuracy. That makes me feel understood. You are a soul, too, with feelings and emotions, and you have never lost your ability to feel or act on instincts.

My cat therapist, by Victoria Dingmann

Oliver is the love of my life. He’s a great listener. He’s affectionate and always knows when I need a cuddle. He’s handsome, loyal and loves me unconditionally. He is without a doubt he is the reason I am so well adjusted after the trials and tribulations of recent past.

Luckily, I had already been to our local rescue organization the day before I asked my hubby to join me there.

What to Feed

A large component of a pet’s health is its nutrition. You are what you eat. You are what you eat… eats. Think about that for a moment. If your dog is consuming beef, chicken, or grains that were raised or grown on a farm with heavy pesticides, growth hormones, and antibiotics, your dog will be indirectly exposed to those unwanted toxins.

There is so much new information coming out about animal nutrition that it can be overwhelming to make the healthiest decisions for your pet so here are some important guidelines to follow to make sure your pet gets the most out of their food:

  • Buy organic whenever possible to ensure your pet’s body doesn’t have to deal with the added stress of indigestible and toxic ingredients.

Health Care

By Summer Roper, DVM.

Introduction

Passion — I love what I do. You have to. The reality of the animal world requires not just unconditional love, but a steadfast commitment to these four-legged souls which trust me with their well-being. I’ve always wanted to be a veterinarian.

As a ten-year old girl, I remember drawing canine anatomy posters and checking out every single dog book from the library. This desire for knowledge fueled my childhood love for animals, and it expanded from wanting to take in every stray dog I saw to wanting a career in healing them.
